BSA Troop 854

Troop 854 is a Boy Scout Troop with the Boy Scouts of America.  We are part of the Michigan Crossroads Council – Sunset District, chartered by St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Canton, MI.

We have a long history, and currently our troop has over 30 active scouts and over a dozen adult leaders who help manage the troop operations.  We have been recognized as an honor troop many times since the troop was originally chartered in 1974, and we have seen over 125 scouts reach the rank of Eagle.

Our Mission

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Boy-Led

We are a boy-led troop, which means the older Scouts in leadership positions pick all of the campouts and events and learn leadership skills as they lead the Troop through those events. We go camping nearly every month and the boys can go on as many or as few of the campouts as they like.  The boys do all of the work; their own meal planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning, set-up/tear-down of camp…you name it.

The boys are supported by a great core of adult leaders that are very involved, with numerous Assistant Scoutmasters and many Merit Badge counselors.  Our aim is to support the boys in their leadership roles and let them learn how to manage their responsibilities.

The adult motto: “Never do something a Scout can do!”

Our Core Values

Our core values stem from our oath, law, and motto.  We strive to honor the Scout oath in our daily lives, live out to the 12 points of the Scout Law, and live up to our motto to be prepared.  We do our best to follow the outdoor code and to help our community by being good citizens, helping others, and giving back in service.
